Amendment 4

Post Date:01/08/2019

The results of the election clearly indicated voters’ desire that individuals with certain felony
convictions have a path to restoring their voting rights. As an elected official myself, I will
support the will of the electorate.

There are still a lot of questions regarding the elements of this amendment; the definition of a
completed sentence, and whether it includes the payment of fines, for example, is going to play
a major role in the implementation of this constitutional change. There also will need to be a
mechanism for determining whether a restitution was paid, given that some restitutions are
handled outside of the Clerk’s office. As Clerk, I am not able to determine whether someone is
eligible to vote; however, I am certainly willing to assist as requested. I will continue to monitor
this issue closely and will respond appropriately to direction from the implementing officials.
