Be Your Own Investigator Seminar

Learn how to be your own investigator

Learn the techniques used to uncover criminal records, property history or even a marriage status. Join Lee County Clerk Linda Doggett at the “Be Your Own Investigator” seminar on Oct. 16 from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Lakes Regional Library in Fort Myers.

Clerk Doggett will teach attendees how to search and view Lee County’s civil and criminal court documents and public records for free on the Clerk’s website. You will learn how to view mortgages, property deeds, marriage licenses, and other official documents recorded in Lee County.

 “We always encourage our citizens to take every precaution to avoid become a victim of a scam or abuse,” Doggett said. “Searching your public records can help you avoid dangerous situations with the wrong people.”

Searching public records can assist with investigating:

  • Landlords and tenants

  • Business and relationship partners

  • Genealogy and ancestry

  • Doctors and medical providers

Information on how to redact your private information from public records in accordance with state law will also be presented.

 Other topics covered in this seminar include how to:

  • pay traffic tickets online;

  • access the county’s financial and audit reports;

  • participate in foreclosure and tax deed auctions

  • postpone jury duty; and,

  • report suspected guardianship fraud.

Registration is not required, but seating is limited on a first come, first served basis. The library is located at 15290 Bass Road in Fort Myers.
