A taxpayer may file a petition with the Value Adjustment Board for the following reasons:
  1. The taxpayer objects to the Property Appraiser's value assessment of the taxpayer's real or personal property.
  2. The taxpayer's application for any of the following exemptions or special use classifications is denied:
    1. homestead exemption
    2. any other tax exemption as provided by Chapter 196, Florida Statutes or
    3. any special use classification as provided by Chapter 193, Florida Statutes.

ALL 2009 PETITIONS MUST BE RECEIVED BY THE FILING DEADLINE OF 9/18/2009 

 

IF YOUR ANSWER TO ANY OF THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS IS "YES",

PLEASE FILE YOUR PETITION IN PERSON OR BY MAIL: 

  • Are you filing a single joint petition on multiple unimproved contiguous parcels? The fee is $15.00 for the petition plus $5.00 for every parcel.  You will need to obtain a letter from the Property Appraiser, confirming that the parcels are contiguous, to submit with your petition.
  • Are you filing a single joint petition on behalf of a condominium owners association? The fee is $15.00 for the petition plus $5.00 for every condominium unit. 
  • Do you wish to pay in some manner other than credit card?

  • Are you filing for two (2) reasons on the same parcel (for example, Homestead Exemption Denial and Real Property Valuation)? If you file these petitions online, you will be required to pay the $15.00 filing fee for the required second petition.
  • Did the Property Appraiser (PAO) deny your request and send you a letter stating that the petition filing fee is waived if the petition is filed within 30 days of the date the letter was mailed?

If you answered "Yes" to any of the above questions, you should file your petition in person or by mail.

          Do not postpone filing your petition because you are waiting to schedule a conference with the Property Appraiser's Office.  The petition and payment

          must be received prior to the filing deadline mentioned above, even if you have not had the opportunity to meet with the Property Appraiser's staff.

 


 

BASIC INFORMATION ABOUT FILING A PETITION ONLINE:

 

Please complete the appropriate online petition form by filling in all required fields and clicking "Submit".

Please do not click the "Back button on your web browser while filling out the petition.

 

After submitting your petition, you will be prompted to submit the required $15.00 filing fee by Mastercard or Visa:

  • Please make a note of the Transaction Number and Password displayed in the top left corner of the payment submittal page. 
  • Please note that a $5.00 Convenience Fee will be added to the transaction by the credit card processor and will show on your credit card statement.

 

A valid email address is required to submit a petition online.  After filing and payment are complete, you will receive an email at the email address that

you provide.  The email will contain information regarding the status of your petition and your Transaction Number and Password.  With this information,

you will be able to:

 

  • Log in to track your petition status and hearing date(s) information
  • Review your petition
  • Submit your evidence in PDF format
  • Review evidence submitted by the Property Appraiser
  • View other documentation related to your petition
